History

At the intersection of Sunset and Main Street, town of Blowing Rock erected a memorial to residents who gave their lives in our nation’s military conflicts. The memorial was surrounded by geraniums in the summer.

The Blowing Rock Garden Club, established in 1948, was created, its mission – to beautify, conserve and educate.

In 2000-01 the club began working with the town to improve the Memorial Garden. In 2002, the club received the town’s “Best Civic Organization” award.

Sculptor Alex Hallmark created The Gardener in resin. In 2005, the club had raised enough money to have it cast in bronze, and installed in the Memorial Garden.
